I know Malaysia is a predominately Muslim country, but since it also has a sizable non-Muslim population, I'm wondering about eating out. Is the food in typical restaurants halal? What about the food in food courts in malls, etc.? Most restaurants don't have halal signs, so I'm just wondering. Any help from those who have been to/lived in Malaysia would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The best thing to do is a pick a place and kindly ask them if their food is halal or not. Being that its a mostly musim country, Im sure they will understand your concerns.

If you cannot find if the restaurant is halal the smartest thing to do would be to ask the owner or employees.

Almost all restaurants are Halal in Malaysia, even the Chinese restaurants. It will say so on the door or the window. But when in doubt just ask. The few Chinese restaurants that are not Halal will just keep you away from the pork if you still like to eat there. They won't be angree if you decide to go elsewhere. Don't worry about a thing!
