Is RM4000 / month enough to live in Malaysia

Is RM4000 / month enough to live in Malaysia?
Hi, I am a software developer with 2 years and 10 months experience from the Philippines and I was offered a job in a company in Malaysia for RM4000/month. I haven't lived in Malaysia yet so I'm basically just guessing to what the cost of living there is. So my question is, would RM4,000/month be enough to live there? considering I have to pay rent etc. Thanks in advance!

of course.unless you really want to live a luxury life then it might not be really enough.or else you can still go shopping.

It is an OK amount. You'll get by if you don't choose to live in luxury. Try to get the best deals in renting a room or soemthing. (Which part of Malaysia will you be working in?). And if you eat at the local coffee stalls instead of restaurants everyday, you'll still be able to save some money

I assume you are going to work in Kuala Lumpur. If so, RM4000 would be just ok. Firstly , they're gonna deduct your salary for tax. If i'm not mistaken, it was 15%. I believe it is still the same but you should confirm that. Then they are also going to deduct further for your EPF (perhaps about 9 or 11%, again, better check.). However, EPF, you can get it back if you're leaving. That would leave you say... roughly 3k to 3.2k net. It's not really much but if you're only renting a room near enough to walk, and say spend about RM10-15 per day for meals, you would have some balance to spend on weekends and sending back some. RM4,000 is quite high for a developer with 3 years experience (higher than locals) but then again, you might want to factor in your extra expenses here like return air ticket, food, travel, entertainment (watching movies in KL isn't cheap, it cost about RM10-12). 4K is a ok decent deal (if you consider work experience, and outstation experience, which would fetch you better salary in the future) but not a fantastic deal. Now, if you're working in Penang, that's a different story, as cost of living there is lower than KL. Then RM4k would be a pretty good deal.

More than enough.

RM 4000 a month is sufficient if your single . If you have a dependent then it would be tough . Assuming you like in KL figure RM 20 a day on meals and RM 300 for rent .

Yes, it is !!! Unless of course, if you are a night-clubber and the like. You are not a manager and I know of managers earning less than you would be getting and they are all Malaysians!!!!! By the way, they are in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Johore and elsewhere....count yourself lucky with only 2 years and 10 months of work experience!!!

More than enough....unless your planning on renting a mansion. Food and bills won't go above RM 600- only if you're a heavy eater. Good luck
