Everyday there are an average amount of 15 dogs that are abused, kicked and thrown away by their master. However, having an organization like SPCA, many dogs lives are saved. Still, this organization only has limited fund to feed & to care for these dogs. Therefore, some are put to sleep and some are on the waiting list to be put to sleep. Well, until someone comes and adopt them. Therefore please re-think of your decision of purchasing one for you Instead, adopt a dog. And give it a chance to live longer. God::: .....*Blush* ........

I'd recommend adopting one from an animal shelter i.e. SPCA. But the breed you mentioned is rather high maintenance due to grooming etc. Although golden retrievers are known to be intelligent dogs & very sociable as well. Personally, I prefer smaller breeds with preferably not much grooming required, LoL=P

i love golden retriever as well.go for it. edit:agree with dulia as well.i see a lot of stray dogs in my area and i feel very bad for them because most of them have the dogs plate.so that means they have an owner before.but their owner just dump them.

From the sound of your question, I don't think you ever had a dog before. You were the one asking about the chow chow right? Well, again, I have a friend who owns a Golden Retriever. They are really reallllllllllllly friendly. Over friendly perhaps. Do you know that Golden Retrivers, Labradors and Husky are the breed of dogs that always get stolen? They are just too friendly! But if this is the kind of dog that you are looking for, you need to take note of certain things: 1. Golden Retrievers shades a lot! My friend's car will be full of fur everytime he brings his dog outs. 2. Caring for a dog is extremely difficult and tiring. You need lots of perserverance especially when he's a puppy. They are really naughty and sometimes you end up being tired and upset with your pup. Been there, done that. Trust me. 3. Getting a dog is expensive, and next, you need to pay for his food, cage, vet visits and training if necessary. I'd advice you to give him some training. Training cost ranges from RM500 - RM1500. Not to forget, YOU must be the one training him. You need to spend lots and lots of time with him especially when he's a pup. Besides all those expenditure, your pup might end up destroying your things and property. 4. Toilet training is not easy. They will still dirty themselves and poo at the wrong places at times. So, are you willing to clean up after them?? 5. With its' fur, maintenance is a must... Not sure how often should a Golden Retriever should be bathe though, I don't own a high maintenance dog. Owning a dog is like owning a kid, it's absolutely and definately difficult, regardless of the breed. After getting a pup, the first thing I thought to myself is I will never ever want to have any kids. They are so difficult and takes a lot of my time. I still sayang my dog, though. Sometimes he's really a good boy, and makes me proud. But many times he became tooooooo devilish and gives me a lot of problem. Owning an "anjing kampung" or whatever you call it is not really that bad. Many times my mom told me that she rather have a mongrel rather than my pure breed dog... Sometimes, I secretly agree...
